Maine-iaks again! It's good to be home...

Holy Moly, what a crazy last few weeks. I'm sorry for not posting an update sooner, and I don't even have a viable excuse, like falling into a volcano, getting trapped in an iceberg, or being lost at sea. However, since my last post I have closed on a house, unpacked all but a few boxes, rearranged furniture, bought some items for the new house...like a paper shredder, and a floor lamp (how exciting), raced back and forth from our new house to my mom's house...helping her out with various things, having dinners with Mark's mom and dad, catching up with old friends in Bogland, graduation parties, meeting Mark's new co-workers and making new friends, and job-hunting. Ironically, I've spent more time driving around doing random errands and networking than at the house doing fun things to fix it up all nice and pretty. Don't get me wrong, I have the majority of stuff unpacked and set up so it looks attractive and livable. However, we still have the basement room to fix up as a game room; we have to get a few items of big furniture that my parents are giving us out of storage; and we have little decorating things to do, like hang artwork, curtains, and pick out a new bathmat. (again, how exciting). And I've been so busy looking for a job and helping out my mom, that I don't have time for an actual job! Not that I've been all that lucky in finding one. It feels like I'm on summer vacation, in a vacation home and that at some point all this newness and light bright weather, and the light bright feeling of no job responsibilities will come to an end. Honestly, it will be nice to have a routine back again, but still keep the awesome house. Mark and I will catch ourselves in the evening, just sort of wandering throughout the house, and one of us will say to the other, "You know, I really like our house!" And being a homeowner comes with putter! More ways to keep busy! I spray painted a lamp last night while Mark weeded the driveway. :) We now have to have tools! Lawn mower, weed whacker, watering can, drill, sandpaper, stepladder, level....and we have projects. Next weekend we want to put in a cat door to the basement! It's an incredibly exciting time, full of moments of stress and relaxation, and Mark and I are trying to enjoy every moment of this summer "vacation." And it's so nice to be back home. My parents are 30 minutes away, Mark's are 10, and we just keep running into old friends around town, and places that we have missed going to, shopping or eating at for the past three years. It's so nice to be surrounded by the familiar, family and friends. As I'm writing from Mom's computer, the pictures I promised of the new house will have to wait until next time. And I'll try to be more coherent in my next post, as well as more timely. Until then, enjoy the summer days.

stef, i really am so happy for you both, and i am impressed with how well the house suits you. ALSO, you're quite handy and refinishing antiques! i had no idea! i'll have to ask for your expert opinion when i eventually take to it myself. it's something i've always wanted to dabble in. -- lindz
