In Greek mythology, Kore, or Persephone was taken by Hades, Lord of the Underworld to be his wife. Her mother, Demeter begged for her return, which was celebrated annually with mystical rites at the ancient site of Eleusis, just south of Athens. I love the figure of Kore; she's fascinating. She is both light and darkness, maiden and queen, death and rebirth. I think there are those duel elements in all of us.
Noteworthy:Interesting website I came across while preping for my mythology class. I'm a big fan of satirist Greg Nagan, and this is in a similar vein. Myths in funny poem form, with kick-ass illustrations. It's called Word Chowder.
